Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: Worked well, but lost connection many, many times Comment: The probes worked well for a pig roast. No problem with heat or other. However, the connection to the remote monitoring unit dropped the connection many, many times. It was easy to reconnect, but annoying. I have had no difficulties with the wireless function and it has worked all the way to my neighbor's house, through several walls. The only incident was completely my fault whe I had taken the probe out of a hot piece of meat, then forgot that it was hot, and grabbed on to it a few minutes later which burned my fingers slightly. Pros: I really find the ability to manually select an exact temperature really improves the versitality of this device. It was a pleasant surprise to me when I began using it. Cons: The beeper could be louder as I have had to be careful and keep it near me or keep my music at a normal voulume to be sure I woudl hear it. Customer Rating: Summary: Great idea, but ... Comment: Apparently this company doesn't have terrific quality control; reviews of their other thermometers frequently mention problems with bad batches of product. This is the first item I've bought from their line, and it's a bust. The transmitter and receiver lose their connection every couple of hours, and don't communicate at all when separated by 25 feet or more. Much worse, the sensors register temps at least 40 degrees lower than actual temps, as measured by charcoal ribs and a cheap but reliable instant-read thermometer I used as a control after ruining the first batch. I'll exchange this one for another because the problem MIGHT be the batch, and because this is a great idea and very handy for long, slow barbecue cooking. Meanwhile, I'm not just unimpressed but disgusted. Customer Rating: Summary: Must-have for Barbecue. Comment: I bought this unit a few years ago. I tried it on Thanksgiving and wrongly thought it didn't give an accurate reading. I dug it out a few weeks ago and tested it in boiling water against a probe thermometer I thought was accurate. Turned out this thermometer had better accuracy (practically spot on). I've seen reviews complaining about the range. I tested that out as well before using it with the smoker. It's worked from downstairs when the transmitter was upstairs. It also worked well when the transmitter was outside and the receiver inside about thirty feet away - with two walls, including the exterior wall, in between. Right now it's working perfectly with the receiver is in the basement and the transmitter outside. Customer Rating: Summary: Superb for Sausage Making Comment: My husband loves this temperature probe. We enjoy making our own sausage. With this temperature probe, he can monitor the smoke temperature at the same time he monitors the internal temperature of the sausage. It's a bargain. The remote readout is a big plus because he can do something else and get notified if he needs to tend the sausages. This temperature probe was better than expected. We highly recommend it.
